The Otobi community in Otukpo Local Government Area, North-Central Nigeria, was attacked by armed bandits in the early hours of Tuesday morning, leaving five people dead.
Among the victims was Igbabe Ochi, a former House of Assembly candidate for Otukpo-Akpa State Constituency under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 general election.
The attack follows a foiled kidnapping attempt on Sunday night at Ekwu-Ora’Odaba, where community volunteer guards, led by Ocheme Jackson, successfully prevented the abduction of residents.
John Anyebe, President of the Otobi Community Development Association, confirmed the attack to reporters, explaining that the assailants gained access to the community via the railway bridge.
According to Anyebe and local sources, the assault appeared premeditated, coming after a previous attack in April 2025 and another in May 2025, which together claimed several lives.
Anyebe said the attackers, identified locally as herdsmen, first shot a resident near the water board before moving to the location where Igbabe Ochi and four others were seated, opening fire and killing them. The assailants reportedly looted nearby stores, taking food and other valuables.
As of this report, the State Police have not yet confirmed the incident.
