The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has unveiled its operational objectives for 2026, emphasizing a strengthened approach to tackling substance abuse nationwide.
Speaking at the agency’s annual review and planning meeting, Chairman/Chief Executive Officer Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) urged officers to maintain momentum in the fight against illicit drugs by dismantling drug cartels and intensifying public awareness campaigns.
The high-level meeting, which brought together directors, commanders, and formation heads, was aimed at setting a strong tone for the year and building on the agency’s record-breaking achievements in previous years.
Brig. Gen. Marwa highlighted that 2026 would focus on consolidation and strategic impact, particularly in Drug Supply Reduction (DSR) and Drug Demand Reduction (DDR). He outlined key targets, including disrupting the financial networks of drug cartels and ensuring widespread community sensitization on the dangers of substance abuse.
The chairman instructed all commands to ensure flawless execution of the strategic work plan, stressing that operational success depends on careful surveillance and planning. He warned commanders to request reinforcements whenever operational capacity is insufficient, rather than risk unnecessary casualties.
He also commended ongoing advocacy and sensitization initiatives, noting encouraging progress in schools and communities across Nigeria. Brig. Gen. Marwa reassured the public that the NDLEA remains fully committed to safeguarding Nigerian youths and families from drug-related threats.
Concluding his address, he emphasized that the agency’s proactive start to 2026 sends a clear message to drug cartels: there will be no room for illegal activities, and urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and support the agency with information. He reminded citizens that the fight against substance abuse is a shared responsibility.
