The International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA) has enhanced the visibility of the Gambian Parliament with visibility equipment worth over D700,000 (approximately $ 9,500).
Handed over to Parliament by Mr Raphael Brigandi, the donation followed a request by the National Assembly for support with visibility and communication tools.
Mr Raphael Brigandi, Deputy Head of the EU Mission to The Gambia, said representation is key, but so too are perception, visibility and public acknowledgement to ensure that democratic work is known to a wider audience.
He expressed optimism that the support would strengthen the Assembly’s ongoing efforts to engage more effectively with the Gambian people, in line with its transparency agenda.
On behalf of the Assembly, the Clerk, Hon. Khalipha MM Mbye, expressed profound appreciation to International IDEA and the European Union Mission in The Gambia for the donation of cameras and other essential communication equipment.
He said the provision of modern tools would enhance legislative coverage, improve information dissemination, and bring the work of Parliament closer to the Gambian people.
Jainaba Fye, Head of the International IDEA Gambia Office, said the donation reflects a partnership rooted in transparency and public engagement, and would strengthen the institution’s communication capacity so citizens can better see and hear their representatives.
