Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, (NDLEA), has foiled a major cocaine trafficking plot, dismantling a network operating across multiple airports and urban centres.
Several suspects, including a Nigerian businessman and two Angolan nationals, were arrested in the operation and significant amounts of cocaine were seized, demonstrating the agency’s commitment to curbing drug trafficking.
NDLEA officers apprehended Ibeanu Chukwudulue at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport with 52 wraps of cocaine concealed inside his body en route to China. On the same day, two Angolan nationals were arrested at Kano Airport carrying 1.33 kg of ingested narcotics.
Airport authorities also intercepted a children’s toy guitar containing 59.2 grammes of cannabis, leading to the arrest of the intended recipient. The suspects, according to the NDLEA, were promised $3,000 each to deliver the drugs abroad.
In Nigeria’s commercial hub, Lagos, officers intercepted 1.1 kg of cocaine hidden in garri, in an operation reportedly orchestrated from Ikoyi Correctional Centre. In a separate incident, 1.7 kg of skunk bound for the UK was seized, and the suspects were arrested.
These arrests consolidate the agency’s mission to intensify its fight against drug and substance abuse nationwide.
