Malian authorities have urged citizens to strictly adhere to preventive measures following a significant rise in confirmed dengue cases compared to the previous week.
The Ministry of Health and Social Development issued the warning during the latest Council of Ministers meeting in the capital, Bamako, citing a worsening epidemiological situation.
Officials called for heightened public vigilance and strict compliance with health guidelines to help curb the spread of the disease and protect vulnerable populations.
Dengue is a viral infection transmitted to humans through the bite of infected Aedes mosquitoes. It commonly causes high fever, severe headache, joint and muscle pain, and rash.
Often referred to as “break-bone fever” because of the intense pain it can cause, dengue is prevalent in tropical climates. While most cases resolve within one to two weeks, severe forms of the disease can lead to life-threatening complications, including hemorrhagic fever.
