The Government of Uganda has ordered the withdrawal of all non-essential diplomatic staff from its embassy in Tehran and urged Ugandan citizens to leave Iran immediately, citing the rapidly deteriorating security situation in the Middle East.
In an urgent security advisory issued on Saturday evening, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it is closely monitoring developments following the escalation of hostilities between Israel and Iran.
Permanent Secretary Bagire Vincent Waiswa confirmed that the government has taken the decision to withdraw non-essential staff from the Ugandan Embassy in Tehran “for their safety,” adding that consular services will be severely limited as alternative arrangements are put in place.
The advisory strongly urged all Ugandan citizens in Iran who are able to do so to leave the country “through any possible means,” warning that the situation remains extremely fluid.
Those who remain have been advised to take serious precautions, stay indoors, alert community leaders of their whereabouts, and closely monitor media updates. The ministry also cautioned that evacuation information may be limited until the situation stabilizes.
In addition, Ugandans have been strongly advised to suspend travel to the Middle East until further notice, as the widening conflict continues to disrupt international travel and airspace across the region.
The government said safety remains its top priority as it continues to assess the unfolding crisis.
This escalation of the Iran conflict stems from a large-scale military operation conducted on February 28, 2026. During the raid, a coalition of over 200 American and Israeli aircraft neutralized approximately 500 strategic targets within Iran, ranging from missile bases to Tehran’s administrative centers.
In response, Iran initiated a broad counter-offensive using ballistic weaponry against Israel and American installations in Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, and the UAE. Consequently, regional authorities have suspended all civilian flights over Iran, Iraq, Jordan, and the United Arab Emirates.
By the time of filing this report, the United States President, Donald Trump, posted on Truth Social that “Khamenei, one of the most evil people in history, is dead.”
This follows the US and Israeli attack on Iran the same day. He says the attack will continue throughout the week or beyond, until they achieve what he describes as “the objective of peace throughout the Middle East and indeed, the world!”
