The Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Vocational Training in Chad, Tom Erdimi, has stepped down from his position after four years in office.
The resignation was confirmed in an official statement issued on March 5 and signed by Prime Minister Allah-Maye Halina.
According to officials, the decision was finalised overnight at around 2:00 a.m., making Erdimi the second minister to resign since President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno assumed power in April 2021.
In a statement shared through the social media platforms of the General Secretariat of the Government of Chad, the prime minister said he had taken note of the resignation while commending Erdimi for his contribution to government programmes and his service to the nation.
In line with institutional procedures, the resignation letter has been forwarded to the president for further action.
To ensure continuity in the ministry’s operations, the Secretary of State attached to the department will assume interim leadership of the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Vocational Training.
During his time in office, Erdimi oversaw several reforms in the higher education sector. These included the digitisation of student registration processes at the University of N’Djamena, adjustments to the national academic calendar, and the establishment of new universities and higher learning institutes across the country.
Local media surveys have frequently ranked Erdimi among the most highly rated members of the government during his tenure.
