The Uganda Prisons Service has announced a Shs10 million (about $2,600) reward for information leading to the arrest of fugitive prison warder Anguyo Moses, the prime suspect in a fatal shooting at Kiboga Central Prison that left four people dead.
In a video posted on social media platforms on Monday, prisons spokesperson Frank Baine Mayanja said the bounty would be paid to anyone who provides reliable information leading to the suspect’s arrest.
“The Commissioner General, Uganda Prisons Service, has put a bounty of UGX 10,000,000 as a reward to anyone who provides reliable information leading to the arrest of murderer No.13544 Warder Anguyo Moses,” Baine said.
He added that all information provided would be treated with strict confidentiality.
Authorities urged the public to report any information through police toll-free telephone lines or to the nearest police station.
Background to the Shooting
The manhunt follows a deadly shooting at Kiboga Prison on February 23, 2026, when Anguyo allegedly opened fire on his superiors during routine operations at the facility.
According to a police report, the suspect allegedly shot dead Assistant Superintendent of Prisons Hope Catherine, who was serving as deputy officer-in-charge, and Principal Officer Bright Akishuri, the third-in-command at the facility.
He also shot Sarah Ayebare, the wife of the officer-in-charge of Kiboga Prison, during the incident.
Authorities say the shooting occurred at about 10:00 a.m. when the two supervisors reportedly found the warder using his mobile phone for chatting while on duty, which violates prison procedures.
After being cautioned, investigators believe he followed them and opened fire.
A toddler who was caught in the shooting later died from bullet injuries at Kiboga Hospital, bringing the total number of fatalities to four, according to hospital officials cited by Daily Monitor.
Security agencies, including police and prison authorities, launched a manhunt immediately after the attack, but the suspect fled the scene.
Officials said the firearm used in the shooting was recovered, but the suspect remains at large and is considered dangerous.
According to prison authorities, anyone with information about his whereabouts is urged to immediately alert security agencies.
Investigations into the motive of the shooting are ongoing.
