Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the purchase of additional military hardware to strengthen the country’s armed forces in their ongoing campaign against insurgency and terrorism.
Defence Minister General Christopher Musa made this known on Thursday during a high-level security briefing in the nation’s capital, Abuja. He said the meeting gave service chiefs the opportunity to provide a comprehensive update on military operations and the nationwide security situation.
While acknowledging recent attacks in certain regions, Musa emphasized that the armed forces have continued to respond effectively, with several top militant commanders neutralized and troops seizing insurgent assets.
Paying tribute to soldiers who lost their lives in the line of duty, Musa described their sacrifice as deeply regrettable but reaffirmed that the armed forces remain resolute.
He appealed for public understanding and continued support, noting that terrorist groups often increase activity during Ramadan, but military commanders have adjusted strategies to counter this trend.
Musa expressed confidence that, with the new military equipment and strengthened coordination among security agencies, Nigeria’s armed forces would prevail in the fight against terrorism.
