A series of explosions rocked Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, on Monday evening, following an overnight attack on a military post on the city’s outskirts.
Government and healthcare sources confirmed the incidents, noting that one of the three explosions occurred near the entrance of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
Earlier, an assault was launched on a Nigerian military position in Ajilari Cross, a southwestern suburb of Maiduguri located a few kilometres from the airport. Another security incident was recorded overnight in Damboa Local Government Area, south of the city.
Dauda Iliya, media aide to the Borno State Government, said authorities were still assessing whether the evening explosions caused casualties. Meanwhile, the National Blood Service Commission confirmed an explosion near the city’s post office.
According to police spokesman Nahum Kenneth Daso, joint security operatives engaged the attackers and successfully repelled the assault, forcing them to retreat. The official police report confirmed that the incidents involved sporadic gunfire and explosions linked to suspected Boko Haram or ISWAP infiltrations.
No casualties have been officially reported among military personnel or civilians during the earlier attacks, although security sources believe the insurgents may have suffered losses.
