The Ghanaian government has emphasized the need to strengthen consular engagement, visa processing systems, and immigration coordination with the United States as part of efforts to deepen bilateral relations between both countries.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, raised these issues on Tuesday during a meeting with Rolf Olson, the Chargé d’Affaires of the United States Embassy, in Accra.
Discussions during the meeting focused on enhancing Ghana-US relations, reviewing progress achieved over the years, and exchanging views on key bilateral and regional matters.

Addressing consular and immigration cooperation, Ablakwa highlighted concerns surrounding visa procedures and broader migration issues, stressing the importance of sustained dialogue and collaboration to address them effectively. He also reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to working closely with the United States in promoting regional peace, security, and stability.
The Foreign Affairs Minister further noted that Ghana’s partnership with the United States has delivered tangible gains across several sectors, including trade, healthcare, education, and people-to-people exchanges, describing the relationship as longstanding and mutually beneficial.
In response, Olson reiterated Washington’s commitment to strengthening ties with Ghana, acknowledging the progress made through ongoing bilateral cooperation. He outlined current engagements aimed at expanding collaboration in priority areas and improving coordination on immigration-related matters.
Both parties welcomed the positive state of relations between the two countries and expressed a shared determination to maintain close cooperation in pursuit of common goals and mutual interests.
