Nigeria has received a fresh consignment of military supplies from the United States as part of renewed efforts to strengthen the country’s fight against insurgency and other security threats.
The delivery was confirmed on Tuesday by the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) in a statement shared on social media platform X.
The support comes as Nigeria continues sustained military operations against insurgent groups, armed banditry and other forms of violent crime affecting several regions of the country.
According to AFRICOM, the assistance reflects a shared commitment to regional stability and underscores the longstanding defence partnership between Nigeria and the United States.
This cooperation includes capacity-building initiatives such as training, logistics support and intelligence sharing aimed at enhancing Nigeria’s counterterrorism operations.
The latest military support follows recent joint security engagements between both countries. Less than three weeks ago, US forces conducted air operations targeting fighters linked to the Islamic State in the northwestern region of Jabo, Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The strikes targeted elements of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), a group historically active in Nigeria’s North East and the Lake Chad Basin, and increasingly associated with violent activities in parts of the North West.
AFRICOM noted that the operation was conducted at the request of Nigerian authorities, highlighting the close operational coordination and security cooperation between both countries in addressing evolving threats to Nigeria’s national security.
