The Chadian government has strongly condemned a deadly attack by Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on its eastern territory, warning that any further incursions will be met with an immediate and forceful response.
In a statement dated January 16, 2026, and signed by Minister of Communication Gassim Cherif Mahamat, authorities confirmed that seven Chadian soldiers were killed when RSF fighters carried out what the government described as an “illegal” cross-border attack on Chadian soil.
N’Djamena said the assault constitutes a grave violation of Chad’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, stressing that it will not tolerate continued aggression from armed groups involved in Sudan’s ongoing conflict.
“The Chadian government issues a final warning to the perpetrators and sponsors of this attack,” the statement read. “Any further act of aggression, provocation, or violation of Chadian territory and borders will be met with an immediate, vigorous, and relentless response, in accordance with national law and international legal provisions.”
Authorities also reported that several people were injured and that the attack caused significant material damage. Officials noted that this incident is not isolated, pointing to repeated border violations by various parties to the Sudanese conflict, which have resulted in loss of life and destruction within Chadian territory.
The government described the latest assault as a “clear, serious, and repeated breach” of Chad’s sovereignty, underscoring growing security concerns along its eastern border as fighting continues in neighboring Sudan.
Chad has repeatedly called for respect of its borders amid the regional fallout from Sudan’s conflict, warning that continued instability poses a direct threat to national and regional security.
