An Adenta Circuit Court in Ghana has remanded a laundry attendant into police custody for allegedly spreading false information about an assassination plot targeting President John Dramani Mahama.
The suspect, identified as Ahmed Hassan Abdul Razzaq, is accused of publishing a video on his TikTok account in which he claimed that two military officers – Sergeant Amoh and Sergeant Joseph – were planning to assassinate the president.
At his arraignment, the court declined to take Razzaq’s plea and ordered that he remain in custody until his next court appearance scheduled for February 9, 2026.
The prosecution is being handled by Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo.
According to the prosecution, the complainant in the case is the Ghana Police Service. The alleged offense occurred on January 20, 2026, when Razzaq published the video naming the two officers as participants in the purported plot.
He was arrested the following day at Adjiringanor in the Greater Accra Region.
In his caution statement to police, Razzaq admitted to creating and posting the video but stated that he had never met the officers mentioned and did not know them personally. He claimed the video was based on a social media post he had come across alleging the assassination attempt.
Investigators, however, said Razzaq failed to provide any verifiable source for the claim.
