Monrovia, Liberia – The Liberia National Police (LNP) has arrested and formally charged a 26-year-old Liberian journalist, Miss Amie T. Dean, for allegedly fabricating a kidnapping incident that briefly sparked public concern.
According to police, Miss Dean— a resident of Paynesville City—has been charged with False Statement and False Report to Law Enforcement Officials, in violation of Chapters 12.31 and 12.33 of Liberia’s Revised Penal Code. She is currently awaiting trial.
The case drew attention after Miss Dean was reported missing on April 2, 2026, only to reappear two days later claiming she had been abducted by unidentified individuals in an unknown vehicle.
However, during police investigations, authorities say she confessed that the alleged kidnapping never occurred.
“The report was fabricated and misleading,” police disclosed, adding that the suspect admitted to the act and pleaded for leniency.
The LNP has since cautioned the public against making false reports, stressing that such actions waste limited security resources and compromise genuine emergency responses.
“False alarms undermine public trust and divert attention from real threats,” the police warned.
The case now moves to court as authorities reaffirm their commitment to upholding the law and maintaining public safety.
Africa’s future is being built—one budget at a time.
