Nigerian youths have been urged to embrace skills acquisition and other empowerment opportunities provided through various intervention programmes offered by the government and other stakeholders as safeguards against substance abuse and other social vices.
The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), gave the charge on Thursday in Abuja during his remarks as Special Guest of Honour at the launch of a youth empowerment and skills acquisition programme organised by Grassroots Bridge Builders, a non-governmental organisation.
He expressed satisfaction that the programme aligns with the present administration’s agenda on youth empowerment, skills acquisition, job creation, and social inclusion.
He applauded the NGO for the initiative to train and empower 10,000 young Nigerians and called on other relevant organisations, community leaders, the private sector, and individuals to emulate it, describing it as direct support for government efforts.
He further stated that the programme complements national initiatives aimed at reducing unemployment, poverty, drug abuse, and general crime.
He encouraged stakeholders to partner with the NDLEA to design and implement programmes that provide youths with skills, dignity, purpose, and a sense of belonging, stressing that prevention works best when communities, organisations, and government collaborate.
The NDLEA boss assured of his support for all genuine, non-partisan initiatives that promote youth development, skills acquisition, and drug-free communities in line with national objectives.
