Nigeria and the Netherlands have reaffirmed their strategic partnership to strengthen institutional responses against human trafficking and related violence.
The meeting held in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja was to review the progress under the Building an Environment Free of Human Trafficking and Violence Against Persons in Nigeria, (TIPVAP NG), project.
The Second Project Steering Committee Meeting, organised by the International Centre for Migration Policy Development, (ICMPD), in collaboration with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, (NAPTIP), received support from the Netherlands’ Ministry of Asylum and Migration.
The meeting also reviewed the implementation progress under the Justice and Security Migration Partnership Programme, which aims to enhance Nigeria’s legal, investigative and victim protection frameworks.
NAPTIP Director-General, Binta Bello, said the partnership has begun yielding measurable results, including improved investigations, prosecutions and victim support services across several states.
Dutch Deputy Director-General, Victor Cramer, described Nigeria as a critical partner in addressing trafficking flows between West Africa and Europe, noting the need for stronger intelligence-sharing and coordinated enforcement.
In her remarks, a spokesperson for ICMPD’s Nigeria Head of Office, Isabelle Wolfsgruber, said the project aims to reinforce institutional coordination and ensure reforms deliver effective protection for vulnerable groups.
The officials reaffirmed their commitment to sustained international cooperation, intelligence-sharing and capacity development to disrupt trafficking networks and protect vulnerable populations.
