The Plateau State Government in north-central Nigeria has convened an emergency security council meeting following a series of violent attacks in the state capital, Jos, and other parts of the state.
The meeting, chaired by Governor Caleb Mutfwang, was attended by the Deputy Governor, senior government officials, and heads of security agencies.
Officials reviewed recent security developments, including a mining-related incident in Wase Local Government Area and multiple attacks that resulted in fatalities across various communities.
“We have just concluded a high-level security council meeting where we examined all that has occurred in Plateau in recent days,” Governor Mutfwang said, adding that measures have been put in place to prevent further violence.
The governor also extended the government’s condolences to the families of the victims, describing many of the deaths as avoidable.
Plateau State has long been one of Nigeria’s most volatile regions, experiencing more than two decades of intermittent communal and sectarian violence. The state has seen a renewed surge in attacks in early 2025. According to Governor Mutfwang, over 420 communities have been attacked and more than 12,000 lives lost over the past 24 years.
