The Nigerian government and Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), also known as Doctors Without Borders, have announced plans to renew their Federal Cooperation Agreement to enhance collaboration and ensure uninterrupted humanitarian operations.
Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Bagudu, speaking on Monday, highlighted uneven health services and wide regional gaps, especially in the North, as major barriers slowing programme uptake.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to better coordination, stronger health systems, economic growth, agricultural support and sustainable local structures to reduce dependence on external aid.
MSF Country Director Pitchou Kayembe praised field teams working under challenging conditions and reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to life-saving humanitarian work, highlighting ongoing collaboration with government stakeholders.
MSF has been operating in Nigeria since 1996, running healthcare projects in 11 states across the North-West, North-East and South-East, supporting hospitals and maintaining a mobile emergency response team.
