The Gambian parliament will on Tuesday receive a comprehensive report on the inquiry into the sale and disposal of assets identified by the Janneh Commission as properties belonging to former President Yahya AJJ Jammeh.
The development is contained in the approved order paper issued by the Office of the Clerk, which will be presented before the proceedings of the first Ordinary Session of the Gambian legislature in the 2026 Legislative Year.
Chairperson of the Special Select Committee, Hon. Abdoulie Ceesay, will present the report for legislative scrutiny, consideration and adoption.
The adoption of the presentation followed a motion raised by the Majority Leader of parliament, Hon. Billay G. Tunkara, on March 9, 2025, to establish the said Special Select Committee to inquire into the assets reportedly belonging to ex-President Jammeh.
Hon. Tunkara had on March 6, 2025 formally notified the Clerk of his intention to table the motion before the assembly to conduct the inquiry, “in lieu of the serious revelations regarding the alleged inappropriate sales of the assets of the former President, to impartially conduct a full inquiry into the matter with a view to establish the whole truth.”
The assembly welcomed and supported the motion, and subsequently an extraordinary session was convened, during which a seven-member committee was established to conduct the inquiry.
The committee officially commenced its inquiry into the assets on March 21, 2025, with The Gambia’s current Attorney General and Minister for Justice appearing as its first witness to testify before the committee.
The committee received sworn testimonies from a total of 35 witnesses, comprising government officials, private individuals and other relevant stakeholders whose insights were instrumental to the inquiry.
The Special Select Committee concluded its five-month marathon investigation into the sale and disposal of assets belonging to former President Yahya AJJ Jammeh on Wednesday, November 26, 2025.
The committee’s work is part of the broader effort to address the alleged mismanagement of assets during and after the Jammeh era.
