The minister disclosed this on Wednesday, while responding to a question from Hon. Alhagie Mbowe, the National Assembly member for Upper Saloum.
Mbowe asked the minister to provide details of revenue generated from the mining sector between 2021 and 2025, including the institutions involved, contributions made to host communities, and taxes paid by mining companies.
In his response, Keita said revenues generated from the sector during the period amounted to over D747 Million .
Mbowe also requested information on contributions made to communities where mining activities take place.
The minister said total community contributions for 2021, 2022 and 2023 amounted to D25.8 million.
Regarding taxes paid by mining companies, Keita said the matter falls under the jurisdiction of the Gambia Revenue Authority.
He explained that details of taxes paid by the various concessionaires were not yet available at the time of submitting his response.
“We have not yet received the details of taxes paid by the different concessionaires. Our request is still pending with the GRA. Once we receive the information, it will be submitted to the Clerk of the National Assembly,” the minister said.
Meanwhile, Hon. Omar Jammeh, the member for Janjangbureh, asked the minister to specify the communities benefiting from mining activities.
Keita explained that the beneficiary communities are those located in areas where mining operations are carried out, noting that the revenue-sharing arrangement primarily relates to onshore mining activities.
He added that offshore mining activities are not included in the revenue-sharing ratio.
